Conditioning
After you have cleaned
your boots it is good practice to waterproof and condition
them. This will not only keep your feet dry but will also
extend the life of your boots. We recommend waterproof and
conditioning products by either Aquaseal or Nikwax.
Aquaseal comes in a
paste formula for smooth leather products and a liquid
formula for fabric/leather, textured leather boots and
synthetic boots, such as Keprotec, Crosta Leather, suedes
and nubuks. Aquaseal products use a unique blend of water
repelling silicone and emollients which allow the leather to
breathe while forming a lasting water tight barrier.
Because Aquaseal
displaces water, boots may be wet or dry during the
application process without affecting the waterproofing and
conditioning performance of Aquaseal.
Nikwax has different
waterproofing formulas specifically designed for leather and
materials used on modern boots. Nikwax Paste Wax or Aqueous
Nikwax is for smooth-finished, top grain leathers. Nikwax
Nubuk & Suede waterproofs nubuk and suede leathers while
Nikwax Fabric & Leather is formulated for leather/fabric
combination boots. Nikwax Aqueous Nubuk Suede and Fabric
& Leather are all waterbased waterproofing treatments
that can be applied to wet boots.
Both Aquaseal and
Nikwax products will have minimal effect on the appearance
of suede and nubuk boots. It is best to test the product on
a small area of the boot.
For leather lined
boots, we recommend reconditioning them with Lexol leather
conditioner to prevent cracking.
All of the above
products can be used on boots that incorporate a waterproof
membrane in their construction with no effect on their
breathability.
